Sport Works drive National Holiday Activity and Food Programme

As we reflect on our Easter holiday provision, the impact of the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) has been monumental to the hundreds of families who accessed the programme across the country.
School holidays can be particularly difficult for families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For many, a holiday experience “gap” is created with research highlighting that children from disadvantaged families are:
- less likely to access organised out-of-school activities
- more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health
- more likely to experience social isolation
In the North East, our team received funding from Durham County Council to provide healthy meals and activity packs for children and families throughout the Easter school holidays. 118 healthy meals were delivered throughout County Durham and children accessed 16 hours of online delivery.
Our London team successfully delivered face to face programmes, commissioned by Sutton Council. In total, 150 healthy meals were distributed to children attending our multi-sport and wellbeing programme.
One parent said, “The support from Sport Works has been incredible. We always struggle during school holidays and the cost to feed my children is never ending. Being able to access the HAF programme really takes pressure off the family financially, and knowing our children are in a safe and fun environment has a great impact across the whole family.”
Sport Works are now planning and taking bookings for our HAF programmes for the summer holidays. For more information, please visit www.sportworksltd.co.uk or email info@sportworksltd.co.uk
