Sport Works receive funding to tackle youth violence

Sport Works are delighted to announce they have received funding from the Youth Endowment Fund for their ‘Aspire’ programme, an initiative designed to reduce crime and violence amongst 10-14 year olds.

The Youth Endowment Fund is a ten-year, £200m Government backed programme designed to support and evaluate interventions which prevent 10-14 year olds in England and Wales being drawn into crime and violence.

The Sport Works Aspire programme utilises the principles of sport and physical activity to provide positive pathways for young people who are involved in serious violence or crime, or who present a high risk of becoming so.

‘Aspire’ enables learners to gain nationally recognised qualifications, work experience as well as increased health, wellbeing.  Ultimately, the programme aims to re-engagement learners back into mainstream education.

The Sport Works North East team will manage delivery of the programme throughout the Tyne and Wear region over the next 12-months.  The team will work alongside  YEF staff to evaluate impact and so contribute to the national evidence base about the best ways to reach vulnerable young people following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Further details and a full list of Covid-19 grant funded awards can be found here.
