SportWorks operates several projects that use sport to enhance lives and build confidence from an early age. Our work comprises of specialist sports coaching projects for able and disabled people, educational work for disadvantaged groups or disengaged youngsters and ensuring children recieve a positive introduction to sport from an early age.
Our team of highly qualified Tutors and Sports Coaches live and breathe the ‘Philosophy of Excellence’ to ensure that they utilise sport as a means of developing positive attitudes towards healthy lifestyles and education.

Dan Hanscombe
Regional Manager

Dan Hanscombe
Regional Manager
Joining the team in December 2021, Daniel is responsible for the development of the SportWorks business within London and the South East. The key part of his role is to work with all our stakeholders to ensure programmes are developed to the highest standards and run smoothly throughout their lifespan. At the heart of this work is his aim to meet the needs of both participants and funders across the region, whilst offering more opportunities to those in need.
Before joining SportWorks Daniel spent 20 years working within the corporate and commercial fitness worlds across a wide range of roles. Working his way up from a Fitness Instructor / Personal Trainer to national management roles, this experience gives him a great perspective of how to find the right solutions no matter the situation. Daniel is a great believer in the ‘right people principle’ and has developed a number of team via apprenticeship programmes, even featuring in the Evening Standard for his work on one of the first fitness industry schemes.
Away from work Daniel has a huge range of interests varying from being involved at his local rugby club to researching his family history. He has also put his ‘love of a chat’ to good use by working towards counselling and mental health first aid qualifications.

Ernest Ako
Project Coordinator

Ernest Ako

Ernest is responsible for the smooth running of programmes throughout London and the South East of England. He ensures that all SportWorks’ projects are consistently meeting the needs of both participants and funders.
Before joining SportWorks Ernest lived in the USA for over 10 years coaching football in California before returning to London and working as an Operational Manager for a Basketball Charity in London. Ernest has previous experience developing a large variety of multi-sport programmes such as holiday camps, fitness programmes and community and inclusion session. Part of Ernest's role when he was a Coach Director in the USA was to develop and mentor coaches within the club.
Away from work, Ernest is a big sports fan and likes to watch live sporting events. He has previously attended the Super Bowl, Baseball World Series, FA Cup Final, Olympics events, Play-Off Finals and over 500 live football games.

Matt Hill

Matt Hill
Managing Director
Matt joined SportWorks in 2018 having worked for a leading sports charity for ten years. Matt oversees our Regional Hubs on a national scale, developing new partnerships and business relationships to support more people to become physically active.
Matt has a strong background in both strategic planning and management of large projects within the sports and education sectors. A qualified teacher, Matt has extensive experience of designing, managing and delivering impactful programmes to young people, families and adults within a range of community settings.
Outside of work, Matt is a keen in sport and fitness fan and enjoys spending time with his young family.

John Newton
National Operations Manager

John Newton
National Operations Manager
John is responsible for everything quality related at SportWorks, including delivery, staff development and training throughout the country. He liaises directly with Regional Managers to ensure the standardisation of delivery and customer service are conducted to the highest possible standard.
John joined SportWorks in 2018 and before this he enjoyed ten-years of success within charitable foundations of both professional Football and Rugby Union clubs. John is highly qualified with a BSc Hons Applied Sports Coaching and recently obtained an International Diploma in Project Management. His knowledge in the sector makes John a great mentor for the development and training of our national staff, providing logistical and strategic support.
Away from work, John is a big sports fan and enjoys spending quality time with his wife, daughter and son.

Our programmes & services
Enhancing the lives of children with disabilities
Our disability programmes are structured to improve health and wellbeing amongst those attending while also providing parents and carers with respite to improve the quality of life for families with disabled children.
Utilising sport to successfully engage disengaged children
We deliver sports themed accredited and non accredited educational programmes for disengaged pupils. They are designed to help participants re-integrate into the mainstream school system and/or assist in the development of their employability skills.
Providing schools with the tools to allow children to develop an enthusiasm for sport
We manage and deliver teacher training courses focused on “up skilling” Primary School staff within PE and sport.
